After Earth.....

After Earth...... Reviews....

Critic's Rating:
Cast: Jaden Smith, Will Smith, Sophie Okonedo, ZoĆ« Kravitz
Direction: M. Night Shyamalan
Genre: Sci-Fi
Duration: 1 hour 40 minutes

Story: A father and son are stranded when their spaceship crash-lands on post-apocalyptic Earth. Father sends the son on a mission to get to a rescue beacon in time and beam a distress message into deep space.

Review: Will Smith is known to do films with a bang - grand movies of sweeping scale where he is the focal point of attention. Not so in this one. Here, he takes the back seat and hands Jaden the baton (obvious metaphors abound; he gives the kid his own saber at the commencement of the quest) to be the main man.

The film is set hundreds of years into the future, where mankind has been evacuated from Earth; a planet now inhabited by human-eating nasties. Cypher Raige (Smith) and his son Kitai Raige (Jaden) are forced to crash-land. The film's plot bears an uncanny resemblance to a video-game where the player has to go the distance from point 'A' to 'B' (100 km, in this case) in 'X' amount of time. Along the way he battles monsters of increasing strength. There are health packs too, like bonus points. And in the end, there is a 'boss fight' with a hideous alien critter called the Ursa. That's it, game over.

Cypher maintains a radio link with Kitai as the harsh patriarch at times and the voice of reason-cum-vendor of wisdom and encouragement at other times. Again it's like how a computer-programmed narrator is in a video-game. At some point, they lose contact and Kitai's moment of reckoning arrives. It's about Kitai having to prove himself to his dad.

The rest of the cast is inconsequential, forgettable and completely replaceable. There are menacing moments and the editing is taut but this stays in cliche territory; it's nothing you haven't seen before. The film suffers from a lack of ambition. After Earth aims for interstellar overdrive but barely manages to take off.

Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 ....REVIEWS.......

Yamla Pagla Deewana 2...... Reviews........

Critic's Rating:
Cast: Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Neha Sharma, Kristina Akheeva, Annu Kapoor, Johnny Lever, Anupam Kher
Direction: Sangeeth Sivan
Genre: Comedy
Duration: 2 hours 35 minutes

Story: Pious Paramvir's crooked father and brother, Dharam and Gajodhar, try scamming a British businessman - and his daughters. Will Param let the duo do it?

Movie Review: Rather like one of the many people Paramvir Singh ( Sunny Deol) pummels, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (YPD 2) totters between GJs (good jokes) and PJs (poor jokes). The GJs are sometimes very good - as scamster Gajodhar-turned-gentleman Prem, trying to impress Reet (Akheeva) with his knowledge of art, Bobby Deol hilariously confuses Zakir Hussain ("Woh 'Wah Taj' wala - woh toh tabla bajata hai, na?") with MF Hussain. Bobby then reappears as his artist-twin 'Q' - accompanied by "Hussain sahib ki ghori, Gaja Gamini". And there's the British lady overwhelmed by a painting, calling Mark and Spencer to come see it too.
But the GJs get flattened by the PJs, which include an over-smart orangutan called Einstein, a blond Anupam Kher as astronaut-villain Joginder Armstrong, Johnny Lever and Sucheta Khanna in un-funny 'villain' suits (including an objectionable Hiroshima-Nagasaki one), Chinese warriors, Sumo wrestlers, Annu Kapoor's accent flying from London to LA via Ludhiana (he introduces Reet as "daughter of late Lady Alizabeth Waltar Khanna") and so many more.
Minus 30 minutes, YPD 2 could have been much funnier - and much shorter. It does have its moments - Sunny in the shower sweetly sparkles while Suit Mera Laal Rang Da will rock shaadi-season. But despite two pretty heroines, three Deols and an assortment of nutty buddies, YPD 2 frequently stumbles into blunder-land. Paramvir works for the world's most soft-hearted bank (its manager drawls, "Cheques are better late than never,"), Suman (Sharma) walks through Banaras in skimpier shorts and tighter push-up tops than what she wears in London, Reet stresses, "Thaynk you sooo much!" to everyone, while Einstein enjoys an awful 'item number'.

On the upside, a very attractive Sunny stays this movie's brave heart - but even his dhai kilo ka haath can't fully lift YPD 2. Pity, considering how cool its 3-D(eol) could be.

Scientists Cloned Pups That Glow In The Dark....

Scientists Cloned Pups That Glow In The Dark.

Have u ever heard of puppies that glow in the dark? Well this is not a joke, a team of South Korean scientists led by Byeong-ChunLee of South National University in South Koreahave cloned puppies for cancer research.

The team took skin cells from a beagle, inserted fluorescent genes into them and put them into eggs before implanting them into the womb of a surrogate mother, a local mixed breed .

The first dog named Ruppy(male) was cloned in the year 2005.Ruppy - short for Ruby Puppy - was one of 5 cloned puppies genetically engineered to produce a fluorescent protein by scientists. At first look they may all seem to be like any other ordinary dog. But when placed under an ultraviolet light they all glow a deep red which is supposed to be a side effect of cloning. Six female beagles were born in 2006 through the cloning with a gene that produces a red fluorescent protein that makes them glow. Two died, but the four others survived.

The dogs are transgenic animals, which means their genetic code has been deliberately modified rather than mutating naturally.

Team member CheMyong Ko from the University of Lexington said they could go on to create dogs with human illnesses. 'The next step for us is to generate a true disease model,' he told New Scientist magazine.

However, many scientists have criticised the process saying dogs already serve as models for diseases including some cancers, narcolepsy and blindness. Nathan Sutter, a geneticist at Cornell University in New York added: 'Transgenesis is laborious, expensive and slow.'

Mr Lee's team only had seven successful pregnancies from 344 specially cloned embryos implanted in 20 dogs. But Mr Lee said some of the five surviving dogs were now producing their own red-glowing puppies. The scientists transferred the fluorescent gene into each dog's egg cell using a retrovirus, but the team was unable to control where the virus inserted the gene. Despite this, Mr Lee's lab now hope to create dogs who have a specific oestrogen receptor knocked out, which will help them understand how this hormone affects fertility.

A Russian Billionaire Planning To Become Immortal By 2045!..........

A Russian Billionaire Planning To Become Immortal By 2045!..........

You have probably stumbled upon a page describing how to become immortal, you have seen movies about it and you have read books.  But if a person says that it’s possible you would just laugh and call him stupid, but that’s not the case for Dmitry Itskov.

Dimitry Itskov, a 32 year old Russian billionaire is planning on living forever. He plans to achieve this feat by the year 2045, which gives the name of his idea-“Initiative 2045”               he HE has a simple idea- To build an android body for himself.

As simple as it may sound it’s really complicated in reality. The idea aims to create the technology enabling the transfer of a person’s personality into an advanced non-biological carrier and extending life, including to the point of immortality.

Itskov has named his “advanced non biological carrier” “an avatar” (some inspiration from a Hollywood movie!!), which is regulated by a brain computer interface. Itskov says that it function somehow like the 2009 James Cameron movie Avatar.  No matter how dubious it sounds but Itskov has put a lot number of world class experts to work on his idea.

We are facing the time where the unconscious evolution period has almost finished, and we come to the new era, a new period of controlled evolution,” says Itskov in a video interview.

“Initiative 2045” wants to make the Avatar technology available by the year 2020.

Itskov also says that by the year 2025 he expects autonomous life-support system for the human brain linked to a robot, which means he will be on a hold of technology that could implant the human brain into a robot. By the year 2035 a human should be able to upload there brain into a robot and by the year 2045 we will be replaced by holograms or our body will be. “We will transform into a new species, when this will happen” says Itskov.

To make these goals a reality, the Global future Congress held its first meeting in Moscow last year. The Congress has promised that it will reveal the most human like robot the world has ever seen when they will meet in New York in June this year.

There are a few flaws to Itskov’s idea, but many believe that it can happen. Itskov’s initiatives 2045 has lead almost twenty thousand people supporting his idea. Many folks are also calling for the year 2045 as a new religion and set of ethics because they don’t believe any of the current ones can handle the societal implications of living forever. This in turn has lead Itskov to form his own political party in Russia called “Evolution 2045.”

There are still many years left to see if the age of immortality is here or not, but I would say the age of traffic jams is definitely here. What will happen if we all become immortal?
